First, determine the format of the series: is it more of a comedy or drama? If you're not sure, consider the time allotted to the program: comedies usually run for 30 minutes, dramas for an hour. Also, dramas usually do not have live audiences. Usually, the primary goal of a comedy is to get the viewer to laugh, while ultimately a drama strives to get the viewer to think. I've adjusted my film rating system, which has two categories and four scales, to rate television series', simply because films and television programs are not the same.
